Many of you noticed a business jet land at the Council airport on February 26th. That just doesn’t happen here very often, so it was a big deal and many folks were talking about it. Turns out it was carrying executives from OrePac to announce the acquisition of Western Timber Products to local employees.

According to a press release, the deal is expected to close around the beginning of April. In this press release, OrePac describes itself as “a wholesale supplier of interior and exterior building materials.” Their website states that OrePac is a family owned & operated business started in 1977. They currently operate in 10 locations throughout the west and are headquartered in Wilsonville, OR.

I spoke with a representative at OrePac who told me that we can expect business as usual at the production facility in Council after the deal finalizes. He also stated that they are excited to grow over time. There are currently approximately 30 jobs at the production facility in Council.

I also spoke with Dan Seid, the President and owner of Western Timber Products, who told me that he plans to stay on for 3 years after the sale to help with the transition. “After 40 years, I am proud to see our business carried on through OrePac’s ownership.”
