Pate Resigns from Board
The Council School Board held a special meeting on June 21st to accept the resignation of board member Julie Pate. Pate had served on the school board representing Zone 2 which includes parts of Council on the west side, Council-Cuprum road and up to Bear and Cuprum.
According to an emailed statement from Board Chair Steve Ryals, Pate resigned because she took a job with the district and according to state law, board members cannot also work for the district.
The board will be advertising for this vacancy and will be appointing someone to fill it. The selected individual then serves until the next election, which is this November for this zone. The newly appointed board member can then run for this seat if they choose.
The board has two more seats up for election this fall: Zone 3 East Council, currently filled by Lynn Mendenhall and Zone 4 Central Council filled by Earl Henderson. Both Mendenhall and Henderson were appointed to the board after vacancies created by resignations. This fall will be there first election if they choose to run.
Ryals finished his email by saying that “...we wish Julie the best. It has been great working with her.”
