Perpetua’s Stibnite Mine Moving Forward
On September 6, 2024, the United States Forest Service released a Draft Record of Decision and Final Environmental Impact Statement to authorize the 2021 Modified Mine Plan for the Stibnite Gold Project.
The Final Record of Decision is expected by the end of the year. After that, Perpetua Resources will need five or six permits which the state will issue and oversee.
Construction at Stibnite is expected to begin this summer, and it will take three years and cost 1.8 billion dollars to complete.
Belinda Provancher, Perpetua’s Community Relations Manager, said that potential vendors and employees are encouraged to upload their resumes on the Perpetua Resources website intake form. perpetuaresources.com/project.
When asked what sort of vendors and employees would be needed, she said, “Imagine what it would take to run a small city-that’s what we need.”
They will need to build 15 miles of roadway, build dormitories, a recreation center, and a small clinic. They will need cooks, housekeepers, truck drivers, and any kind of employee that a small city would need. She said many of the workers would work two weeks on and then get two weeks off.
2028 is the year Perpetua Resources expects the mine to become operational, and then they will need mine workers. They will be mining gold, silver, and antimony, which is critical for national defense, technology, and clean energy.
