The Adams County Commissioner’s Meeting on August 19th opened at 9:05 with commissioners Daren Ward, Joe Iveson, and Viki Purdy meeting in executive session with the county prosecutor Chris Boyd. The session ended with no action taken.
Meredith Fisher from Planning and Zoning, along with Leona and Alfred Huber clarified the shop which was the subject of last week’s meeting, was actually a Cleary pole structure to cover a 5th wheel. The variance for the right-of-way was approved. Commissioner Iveson stated, “They’re 21’ inside their own fence” and a discussion on whether the 80’ setback is appropriate continued with no action taken. The scheduled Yantis rock pit meeting set for August 19th is rescheduled to the 26th at 7:30 p.m., due to conflicts.
Solid Waste, Steve Shelton reported that the bid for the landfill pond liner came in substantially lower than the estimates at $450,000. He also shared that another load of tires was sold, and that the contracted excavator with rock truck completed their work in 6 days which would have taken weeks more time with the smaller county equipment. The contractors did a good job.
Adam Balderson from Road and Bridge reported they are busy cleaning ditches before weather comes. Two bridges, one 50’ and the other 40’, will be posted for sale under sealed bid. September 30th was set for the bid opening.
Approved Items: Payroll for $219,454.01, Commissioner minutes from August 12th meeting and the contract for the court appointed attorney, Amy Holm were all approved.
Sheriff Ryan Zollman shared that the jail currently houses 15 State and 6 County inmates.
The Limepoint Fire is looking good and they’re hoping the Kleinschmidt road may be opened next week.
After the elation of two weeks with working air conditioning the system has again broken down. When the new air conditioner was installed and turned on it fried the working one and the condenser in the one. Though the units are under warranty the time between parts and repair often takes weeks.
Al Duncan owner of Quail Hollow RV Park asked about the process for eviction from private property if there is a refusal to leave once notified. Sheriff Zollman determined that as the private property owner has a signed contract, the terms in the contract would be the basis for eviction and that refusal to leave could lead to being charged with trespass. It was agreed that no ordinance would be necessary.
Jeff Jones from the US Forest Service Council District Ranger reported that there are still several active timber sales: Thorny Goose, Skid Trail, Iberia, and Quaking Pine. The resurfacing of the Lost Valley reservoir road is in progress as is the rock surfacing above Fall Creek road. Anderson Creek road is closed due to fire traffic. The West Mountain jeep and adjacent trails are closed for the season to facilitate restoration from the fires. Commissioner Iveson asked if there were any cattle or livestock losses due to the Limepoint Fire. No livestock deaths have been reported, and the technology for thermal imaging used to determine fire hotspots was fine-tuned to locate cattle within the fire perimeter. Commissioner Purdy asked how grazing allotments were affected by the fire. The Ranger Jeff Jones stated that the Limepoint Fire burned winter range from Windy Ridge and a bit farther rather than summer range. The fire was kept west of Cuprum which reduced the impact on summer allotments. Most of the wild fires within Adams County have been caused by lightning rather than by humans.
The meeting concluded at 11:15.
