Ryals is new Zone 1 Trustee

by Nathan Estes, Publisher
The Council School Board met on Monday April 1st in a special meeting. This meeting was scheduled primarily to interview candidates for Zone 1’s vacant Trustee position on the board.
There were four candidates that had stated their intent to be considered for this vacancy. Two withdrew leaving Maddi Williams and Steve Ryals to be interviewed at this meeting.
Each current board member asked the two candidates two or three questions, debated the merits of each candidate and ultimately appointed Steve Ryals to the remainder of the term. Board members stated that both were strong candidates but Ryals’ experience in education gave him the edge. He will serve the remainder of the term and can then run for election.
The board also went through their first reading of Policy 3400 - the drug testing policy. This gave them the chance to refine the language and to ensure that all were on the same page with this policy. It is the board’s intent to test every student at the beginning of each sport or extra-curricular season and then once randomly sometime during the season. This will include all extra-curriculars from sports teams to vvFFA.
The board then went into executive session for personnel matters. No public actions were made after this session.
