Elias Devries, representing the MHS graduating class, appeared at the regular meeting of the Midvale School Board Monday evening. He presented the plan for the senior trip to be taken in April. The class has over $6,000 saved towards a cruise in the Bahamas. Five members of the class are going and the exchange student from Italy currently living with the chaperones, BJ and Jesse Whitener, has asked to go also. The Whiteners will pay their own way. Dates of the trip are either April 9-14 or April 23-28. After flying into Miami, the group will board a Carnival Cruise ship. The board approved the plan.

The board also approved an early graduation request by Michael Kyser. He listed his current employment and future employment plans. Since he has maintained a GPA over 3.0 and has met all the graduation requirements, the board approved his request.

Patrick Griffin was approved for the position of Elementary Principal. The board is also going to hire either a 4th or 5th grade teacher.

The Sports Coop meeting will be April 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Cambridge.

The graduation requirements policy will be the addition of the ISAT exam. Currently students can choose from the ACT or SAT.

Trustee Jerry Piper gave an update on legislative issues. The one that will effect local students is the reduction in funding for on-line dual credit classes. The state wants to restrict students to only three classes each year. This will mean students will no longer be able to achieve enough credits to meet an Associates Degree at graduation.

Superintendent Matt Jones reported on a few activities. He gook the juniors to higher ed days on February 12. There are two memorial services scheduled for the Midvale gyms. March 7 will be the Summers’ service in the new gym. March 28 will be the Miller service in the old gym. The scholarship committee is forming to begin the application process.

The next meeting will be March 23 at 7:00 p.m..
