Skatepark & Childcare Center Updates, Water Issues, GHM Proposal
A regular meeting of the New Meadows City Council was held on the evening of April 8, 2024. There were eight in the audience and six attended via Zoom.
Mayor Good noted that KTVB had an online news report highlighting what’s happening with the skatepark. $520,000 has been raised and Grindline is the company they are working with to build the park. One of the first things Grindline will do is have a community meeting to get community input on the project.
Recent water issues were caused by a slight decrease in pressure during a power outage. No E-Coli has been found but a small amount of chlorine is being used until the next water test comes back. Kirk Kundrick and Ivan McDaniel were at a water conference last week. The mayor publicly thanked Hunter Brown and Kyla Gardner for the extreme amount of work they put in last week on a large number of projects. She also recognized that even though public works employees are still gaining experience in their roles, they have been reaching out to experienced people to learn from them.
The Council then moved on to Action Items in which an Industrial Park Lease Addendum was approved and an emergency action item was added to the agenda and approved to grant authority for the mayor to approve an estimate for fixing the back doors at All Seasons Refrigeration due to the emergent circumstances.
Brown’s Mountain Recycling CUP Status report was approved with the stipulation that the farm implements be removed since they were not part of the original agreement.
Antonio, with Ackerman-Estvold was present to talk about the Childcare Center and Skatepark Land Survey proposal which the council accepted.
A Budget Hearing was set for August 12.
It was decided to ask the Stibnite foundation for funds for downtown beautification. The mayor noted, after questioned by the audience, that the Dorsey Warr Memorial will be returned to the park once it dries out and that there are trees being donated to plant at the park.
The City Council agreed that the team from Grissom, Hoffman and Moore will act as project manager of the childcare center project. The grant money for this project has to be spent within a year. The GHM proposal was approved pending Attorney Dick Stubbs’ review.
There was a discussion on gravel and product for the city streets. A priority list is being created so the worst streets will be fixed first. The project will take a couple years.
Addresses were approved for a new development at Crossroads.
April was proclaimed Child Abuse Prevention month. It was also the 56th anniversary of April being Fair Housing month.
A letter of support was approved for VCORP which is working to continue and expand funding for substance use disorders.
Future meeting topics are the verification methods for Industrial Park discounts, Ivan McDaniel’s presentation, prioritization of streets, childcare proposal, public hearing, and city beautification.
