Strawberries Made a Grand Showing at Midvale Plant Exchange

The sun was shining and gardeners were digging in the dirt at the Midvale Community Garden Saturday morning. Even as the annual Plant Exchange was starting, there were potatoes coming out of the ground that had overwintered, so onto the table they went.
Also available on the tables were plenty of strawberries, rhubarb and chives. Someone brought several tomatillos. Plenty of perennials like lillies, hollyhocks, rudbekia, maybe some sedum and others. The seed bins were full of flowers and veggie seeds. Houseplants were available as well as annual hibiscus plants called Mahogany Splendor.
The community garden is sponsored by the nonprofit Midvale Marketplace, Inc. Elsa Freeman says anyone is welcome to come work in the garden which has large plots of strawberries, corn, squash, asparagus, rhubarb and more. There are some raised beds with wide edges to sit on while you tend cucumbers and peas. The walking paths are covered in bark to keep shoes clean.
