The Fruitvale General Store Celebrates Grand Opening

On Saturday, May 25th, the Fruitvale General Store celebrated its grand opening! Owners, Heidi and Michael Miller, have been working all winter on renovating the unique building in Fruitvale that used to be the Fruitvale Mercantile and Post Office, and on Saturday, they were finally ready to welcome the community with a ribbon cutting, grand opening, event!
The Fruitvale General Store is located on Fruitvale Glendale Rd, in the old town of Fruitvale, next to the Weiser River Trail. Because of the close proximity to the trail, the Millers were hoping to become a respite and supply stop for trail users, and this proved to be a need from the very first day. Shortly before the ribbon cutting, a group of cyclists who were traveling from New Meadows to Cambridge happened to stop by just in time for the festivities! They were caught in a short downpour, so the Millers lit the fire pit for them to dry off while they enjoyed refreshments from the store. One grand opening attendee even decided to serenade the crowd with songs on the guitar. It was the exact atmosphere the Millers were hoping to cultivate with the store!
The Fruitvale General Store will have regular hours from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and will also open by appointment or for special events and holidays. They currently carry an assortment of vintage and antique items, beer, wine, and other cold drinks, ice cream, pantry and picnic items, as well as western gear and attire. Heidi Miller has an extensive background in imports, antiques, and interior design, and all of the artfully displayed items in the shop are for sale. The Millers also plan to add to their selection as the store grows, one of the next things Heidi wants to add is a small candy counter where one can buy individual or bulk small candies, just like in an old time candy shop. Michael, who used to run Boise Electric Bikes, will soon be renting a small fleet of ebikes to use on the Weiser River Trail. Both the Millers are excited to serve Fruitvale and all of Adams County while bringing the building and former community staple back to life, complete with all its old-time charm.
