It’s been 24 years since Midvale School Board welcomed Steve Sutton to the table. Expressions of appreciation for all that he has done were made. He has sent a letter of resignation which was accepted by the board at their regular meeting Monday evening. A vacancy was declared on the board effective June 1. Letters of interest will be accepted and considered by the board at their special meeting scheduled for June 22 at 6:30. The board will vote on the next trustee at that meeting.

A janitorial position will be open at the school starting with the school year. It will be approximately 25 hours per week with full benefits.

Superintendent Matt Jones reported on the Awards Assembly. Elias DeVries is the valedictorian and also was awarded the Larry and Maryann Williams scholarship. Alyssa Britton is salutatorian. Wes Barton was awarded the Courage Award by the FCA. Other awards were given also.

A general overview of the budget was given by the superintendent. The plan is to use 12.5 support units for a projected revenue of $2.4 million. There is an additional support unit for the alternative school but that can fluctuate each year. Also when the numbers of students in elementary rise, so do the support units. The high school numbers do not effect it.

Treasurer Kyla Dickerson was present to explain the district’s health insurance premium costs. The premiums are rising 19.5 percent. The board approved a motion to raise the employee benefit from $817 to $1,000.

Also approved was a raise in the price of hot lunches. Elementary and high school lunches will go up ten cents to $2.85 and $2.95 respectively. Adult lunches will raise 25 cents to $5.35. The district goes in the red several thousand dollars each year because of the cost of running the program.

The next regular meeting will be June 22 at 7:00 p.m. after the special meeting scheduled for 6:30.
