Upcoming 8th Annual Bike-a-Thon and Recent National Night Out

Meadows Valley citizens continue to work toward growing community connections. Meadows Valley Parks & Rec is planning the 8th Annual Meadows Valley Community Bike-A-Thon for Saturday, September 13. This past Tuesday, August 5, New Meadows held their first National Night Out encouraging community relationships with law enforcement and first responders as well as awareness of community help organizations and growing neighborly relationships.
National Night Out is an annual community building event. The New Meadows Community Center board approached Mayor Julie Good awhile back about putting on this event and last Tuesday was the culmination of much effort and organizing. The Community Center hosted a booth with snow cones offering information, fun, and cheer. Their organization efforts led to a wonderful event for the community.
New Meadows Community Farmer’s Market manager Julia Olson brought her food truck Country Delights and she and her husband passed out warm donuts throughout the night.
The first responder presence was strong with Adams County Sheriff Ryan Zollman and his team as well as Meadows Valley Fire & EMS. Sheriff’s vehicles and a giant drone were available to peruse as were an MV ambulance and fire truck. Kids enjoyed climbing in and around the vehicles and learning about what is inside. Hot dogs and fixings were available along with conversation and information.
Other community organizations, including Ignite Idaho and Adams County Health Action Team (ACHAT), were present with lots of mental health and family resource information.
Meadows Valley Library hosted a craft station where people could make buttons, mirrors, or keychains and have a cookie.
The City of New Meadows was represented by Mayor Good, City Clerk Kyla Gardner, and Parks and Rec member Angie Mettie. Their booth held city information, cake pops, and sign ups for the upcoming Bike-A-Thon. The fun begins with getting sponsors who pledge the bikers per mile or a flat amount. If you are in need of a bike in order to participate, contact City Hall. A generous citizen has been fixing up bikes to help ensure community members have bikes to ride.
The event begins on Saturday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Meadows Depot & City Hall. Riders will travel with an escort to Zim’s Hot Springs, have a snack, then ride back to the City Park for lunch. This is about a 12 mile round trip ride. To pick up pledge and sign up sheets or for more information, visit City Hall at The Depot.
