Vandalism and Theft at Boise Cascade Park, Fundraiser on Saturday
For many, springtime means coming out of cozy winter hide-aways to see what damage Mother Nature may have caused on your property over the last several months. For the Boise-Cascade park and Adams County Parks and Recreation, it meant finding recent acts of vandalism and theft of sporting goods used in county youth programs.
Lana Wessels with Adams County Parks and Rec told me that she recently discovered a wooden picnic table that was due for replacement was vandalized, the toilet seat on the pit toilet towards the pond was broken and a fence slat was torn from it’s mounts on a newer portion of fence.
Josh Thurlow who is also with Parks and Rec, said that two teams baseball gear had been stolen out of the storage units at the park - the majors team for ages 11-13 and the rookie league for nine year olds. He estimates that the dollar amount to replace what has been taken with equivalent gear is roughly $3,000 - 5,000.
There will be a fundraiser to help offset the cost of replacing this equipment at Jerry’s Auto in Council on Saturday, April 18 from noon to ‘whenever.’ You can meet the players and coaches, get your car washed and pick up some treats from the bake sale, get a hot dog and enter the 50/50 raffle. This will be a donation only event.
