Carol Nevills, a seventeen-year-old musher from Middleton, came in first place in the Idaho Sled Dog Challenge Warm Springs Stage Race held on Jan 29th-Jan 30.

The two-day, 52-mile race had nine mushers this year.

Last year, she wasn’t able to finish because her sled tipped over in deep snow and she dislocated two ribs during the accident.

This year, her mom, Liz Nevills, competed against her, but gave her daughter the strongest of the family’s 28 dogs and Liz finished in ninth place.

The two Middlton women were the only Idaho competitors in the race.

During this race, Carol and her dogs overcame a ten-minute lead held by last year’s winner, Clayton Perry from Power, Montana on the second day and finished two minutes ahead of him. He came in second.
