Water Pressure Problems Discussed at Length by Council
At Monday’s regular meeting of the Midvale City Council there was a lengthy discussion of the future needs of the city’s water system. Presently there are several times during the summer when the minimum psi can barely be maintained. Residents on the hill west of town have a booster pump but still have problems. Whenever a tanker stops in town to fill from the city hydrant, the school may lose so much pressure that the toilets do not work. The joke is that a person may not have water to remove their shampoo when in the shower.
The solution to the problem is to have a storage tank to maintain consistent pressure to the lines. The council was advised by Mayor Brian Graham to spend the winter considering this need and ways to fund the very expensive project. Midvale currently has 97 meters on its rolls.
Clerk Mariah Johnson reported that the annual audit for fiscal year 2023-2024 is well underway. She presented an extensive overview of revenue and expenditures for all three of the city’s accounts: general fund, airport and water. One note was that next spring there will be grant funds to do more work on the city’s streets.
The council approved two liquor licenses: Midvale Mercantile and Slim’s Saloon. Brenda Tanner of the tavern mentioned that they can sell liquor to go, however the container cannot be opened inside the business. If it is, the customer must remain there to enjoy what they purchased.
The Swim Pool committee was commended for the great job they did cleaning up the park after the Fall Festival. It was stated that afterwards there was no evidence that anything had gone on in the park. A thank you note will be sent to them for their diligence.
The airport paving project is still planned for next spring. Instead of the original 60’ wide airstrip, the paving will cover 50’, leaving the edges as they are now. At present it is landable but the airport is closed by the Division of Aeronautics.
The next regular meeting of the council will be December 9 at 7:00 p.m..
