Mike E. Paradis Retired Adams County Commissioner
May 13, 2026

The May 19 Primary Election soon upon us. I usually don’t participate in the fray, but this time I feel it is necessary to share some of my thoughts with the voters of Adams County. I have seen many elections come and go over the years and our local elections have usually been very civil, with the mud slinging, slander and negative rhetoric reserved for those at the Federal level. The ironic thing is the fact that the negativity this year is not one party disparaging the other, but the leadership of the Republican Party attacking others in the same Republican Party, with one candidate in particular. The Republican Central Committee is not a Political Action Committee, but it seems that they have taken the political playbook from Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer with their personal attacks against Tara Horton, who is running for the Clerk’s position. I’ve heard the words “incompetent, corrupt, RINO” among others. Nothing could be further from the truth and it is a shameful action in my opinion. Which brings me to the crux of my letter. For those that don’t know me, I worked closely with the Adams County Clerk’s office for 20 years as your Commissioner from District 2, and the last 14 years Tara Horton worked in that office and is now the Chief Deputy, which means that she is in charge when the Clerk is absent. Tara was then, and is now, an excellent employee and she can do every job within that office, which is extensive. She works well with the public and other employees. I urge you to cast your vote for Tara Horton, as she will hit the ground running as your next Adams County Clerk!
