This past week has been crazy. I’ve been working with Sandra McKee, our City Clerk, on the Rural Development grant for the Center, in addition to my regular month-end reports. And dealing with the day-to-day stuff that comes up. The City of Cambridge’s part, which is a large part of the information, as they are sponsoring and administering the grant, and the center’s information. I’ve never had experience with a grant this large, and quite frankly, I’ve never had to provide as much information for a grant before.
The pressure is that there is a short window to put the grant information together, as we are having a public meeting the first week in March. All the i’s must be dotted, and the T’s crossed at that time. The public notice will be published in the newspaper this week. The decision on whether we are awarded the grant should come sometime in the first part of May.
Please get your ‘letters of support’ to me as soon as possible. You can address your letters to the City of Cambridge and even email them to cityclerk@cambridge.id.gov. If you would like, you can address them directly to the Idaho Department of Commerce, 700 West Street, Boise, ID 83702. You can drop them off here at the senior center, or email them to the city clerk. It’s important that our members and community support the City of Cambridge and the Cambridge Midvale Goodrich Senior Center in receiving these funds.
We need these letters as soon as possible, so please make it your number one item on your to-do list. It would be great to get as many as possible by the 15th of February, but as long as we get them before the end of the month, we can make it work. As I’ve said before, your letters or notes don’t have to be fancy, formal, or long, or have correct spelling; they just need to be a personal statement about what the senior center has meant to you or even your parents. And that you support the city and the senior center in receiving this grant for the needed improvements.
We have a board meeting this Wednesday, February 11, at 1:15 pm. If you are interested in learning more about the Center, please join us. Visitors are welcome.
Friday, February 13, is the date of our Valentine’s “Death by Chocolate” bake sale fundraiser. It will start at one pm and end at 4 pm, unless we sell out before. Shop early for the best selection.
Our Food Pantry is from 1:30 pm to 3 pm on February 18th. And this month’s Foot clinic is on Monday, February 23rd. Call 208-257-3358 to book an appointment.
MENU: Friday, February 13th: Chicken Enchilada Casserole, Spanish rice, refried beans, Salad, Pears, and Marbled Chocolate bars. Wednesday, February 18th: Swedish Meat Balls, Rice, Peas, Wheat Roll, Apricots, Salad, and Banana Bars. Friday, February 20th: Pizza! Combination, Hawaiian, Chicken Alfredo, or Pepperoni and Cheese. Salad, Apricots, and Dessert.
Your eyes are probably blurry from reading this week’s column. Thank you for bearing with me during this grant process and my requests for information. This will all be over before we know it.
Have a great week, everyone!
