The Washington County Rodent District is hosting the 7th annual spring gopher trapping seminar on Saturday, March 15th beginning at 10:00 a.m. to help those who are learning to trap and the professionals who are always looking for new ideas. The event will conclude at noon.

This is an outdoor “hands on” seminar per Rodent District Chair, Curtis Hickey. Topics will include how to identify an old mound vs. a fresh mound, habits of the gopher, how to locate the burrow, dealing with trap theft from other animals, how to be more efficient and how this can be a profitable venture for many. A new look at vole control with owl boxes will also be featured.

This workshop will give those experiencing gopher problems the opportunity to ask all the questions they have wondered about while in the field.

There is no cost to attend, and everyone is welcome to attend with the class expected to last approximately two hours. Please dress for the field and weather conditions (it will likely be muddy), remember Mother Nature is quite unpredictable this time of year.

The seminar group will meet at Bob Shirts hay sheds located on Lower Mann Creek Road in Weiser. Directions: travel east on Weiser River Road to Lower Mann Creek Road, turn left on Lower Mann Creek Road and follow the signs. Bob’s hay sheds are located approximately 2.25 miles up Lower Mann Creek Road on the left side of the road. Signs will be posted along the Mann Creek route. Please follow the parking order when you arrive.

The Rodent District would like to encourage anyone who has an interest in trapping to attend. Please RSVP to the Weed Department at 414-1950 to ensure the district has adequate handouts.

Keep in mind this event is weather dependent. If we are going to be experiencing bad weather, we will reschedule and contact you with the new date. Please make sure you leave a phone number when you register.
