Did you know that baby rabbits, called kits, are born completely blind, deaf, and bare bun naked? Mama rabbit builds her nest by pulling out her own fur to keep her babies comfy and cozy.

She only feeds them once or twice a day so you may not see her spending much time in her nest with them. It’s good to keep an eye on the tiny little tummies to make sure they are plump and getting their fair share of mama’s milk.

As always, it’s very important to keep fresh water and hay available to mama at all times. It’s also beneficial to supplement with things like black oil sunflower seeds to help give mama a boost while she is feeding all of those extra mouths.

This time of year, there is all kinds of fresh and free food growing right in your yard. Be sure you know what you are picking and feeding your furry friends and that it is safe for them to eat. A couple fan favorites around here are dandelions and red clover.
