As we draw to a close the month of October, we’ve looked at different aspects and avenues of serving the Lord. As we close this month and enter into the season of giving thanks and preparing for the celebration of Christ’s coming in Christmas, we notice that we have a multitude of opportunities to serve the Lord. However, we need to be sure our heart is within the right place. Many times throughout our lives, we may find ourselves serving to meet some goal. This goal may be something to the extent of getting something in return from another person, getting recognized for our work, or something else entirely.
The Bible gives us a good direction to help us with our heart, our “why” behind our service. There is a wonderful section of Scripture that specifically talks about this: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31)” Regardless of what we do, or whatever situation we are in, our “why” must be toward giving God glory.
But, what in the world is glory? The bible defines glory as giving a high view or judgment of something. Therefore, when we do things for God’s glory, we mean that we serve Him to make sure that God is the one in view and the one receiving this praise. Connecting with our service, when you serve the Lord in obeying His Word, serving the church, or whatever it may be, our hearts should be with the attitude of giving God praise.
Why is this? God gave you His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, that whosoever believes in Christ, shall be adopted into His family. God gave you the most lovely thing He could give you, salvation through His Son. What love! Now, we can then say, “He saved me. I wish that my life represents that same love.” So then, we follow His Word, the Bible, which helps us best represent this adoption and reflects Christ’s sacrifice.
In conclusion, make sure your heart is turned to the Lord. He will guide you to serve well and live for His Glory! God Bless.
