Why Do We Serve?

Pastor John Loewen
October 15, 2025

As this month continues on, we continue in looking at Christian Service. First, we talked about what we do as Christians and then went to a godly example of service in the person of Tychichus. Now that October is halfway gone (yes, it actually is), there just be a reminder at the forefront of our minds: a reason. Why do we serve? Why do we love others? Why in the world would we go out of our way to show kindness to others at the possible expense of ourselves? The answer is very simple: Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

There is a good portion of people out there that reflect an idea that doing good things gets us closer to the Lord in being saved. However, the Bible tells us to be sure to put the “horse before the cart”. A wonderful passage emphasizes this point clearly. Found in Mark 10:45, Jesus tells us that He did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life as ransom for many. Though Jesus is God Incarnate and is worthy of all honor, praise, and glory that we can ever muster, He came, instead, for the redemption of many, to win their salvation on Calvary. He came that those who are taken in their sins may find salvation in repenting of their sins and having faith in Christ.

Therefore, it is then through this that we then serve others. It is because of the week of Christ that we then go out, share the Gospel, and help others, do others may see the hope within you that Christ shows us in His loving kindness. In essence, we do because of what Christ did, and we wish to serve Him with our lives.

So, as you continue throughout your week, please remind yourself of the wonderful Gospel, and may that fuel what you do. God Bless!
