Billy (Bill) Joe Mayfield, resident of Indian Valley, Idaho was born on April 22, 1935 in Cody Wyoming. He passed away on Sunday, March 1st 2026 in Nampa, Idaho.
Bill was adopted as a baby by his father Merrol Mayfield and Ruth Mayfield and was their only child.
Later in life Bill found out he was one of 13 children.
Bill was married to Janet Mayfield until her passing in 2017
Bill loved to bowl and would travel to Ontario, Oregon and Caldwell, and Nampa and Meridian, Idaho, to bowl in several different leagues. Bowling is how he met his future wife Rita Mayfield (Bauer) and they were married on August 9 2019
Bill was a proud member of the Elks Lodge and valued the friendships and community that came with it. As a ham radio operator, he found joy in connecting with people across distances and sharing conversations over the airwaves. He loved the great outdoors and appreciated the quiet beauty of nature.
Bill spent a life time working in the oil industry from 1950 when he was just 15 years old until 2002 when he finally retired moving to Council, Idaho in 2005. While in the oil industry, Bill got to travel extensively and experienced life in many parts of the world. His two favorite places were Trinidad and Alaska.
Bill was an amazing and kind man, always with a smile, always in a good mood, and when he laughed a certain way, you just knew he was up to something mischievous. Bill did not have any children of his own, but had 3 step children and their spouses and numerous grandchildren that he loved to spoil (of course go-carts were his first major Christmas present for them to enjoy)
Bill is survived by his wife Rita L Mayfield, step children Debbie (Allen) Gowdy, Brian (Cyndi) Bauer and Brad (Amy) Bauer, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, brother Ralph Leese.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Janet, his parents Merrol and Ruth Mayfield and 11 brothers and sisters
