Dwight Thomas Murphy

Dwight Thomas Murphy reunited with his beloved wife, Dixie, in heaven on July 16, 2024.

Born July 6, 1939, in Cambridge, Dwight was the oldest child of Joe and Marie Murphy. The family was completed when sister LaNita was born.

Dwight graduated from Cambridge High School in 1958. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Dixie Clarke, and the lovebirds were married on May 27, 1960. The couple welcomed three children: Daniel, Denys, and Deena and proudly raised them in Council. The family loved to be outdoors camping, canoeing, and hunting in the gorgeous Idaho wilderness. Some of their favorite camping spots were Lost Lake, White Licks, Cabin Creek and Huckleberry Campground. Through their years at Council schools, all three kids were active in sports with Dwight and Dixie supporting them from the sideline and everything else they had going on. That constant support continued for their grandchildren’s sports and activities as well. Dwight and Dixie renewed their wedding vows for their 25th wedding anniversary and celebrated their 50th anniversary surrounded by family and friends before Dixie’s passing.

Known as a hard, steady worker, Dwight started working at Tamarack as a young man. He then worked at Boise Cascade sawmill in Council until it was closed. During his time there, he worked all jobs, but finished his time as a sawyer. In addition to his work, Dwight volunteered his time and talents throughout the Council Valley area. He was active with the Lions Club. He happily served the Council Community Church by stoking the fire throughout the winter, assisted with the remodel, and hand-crafted wooden signs. Unable to sit still in his retirement years, Dwight worked part-time at M&W making sure the floors were sparkly clean. He enjoyed his morning walks with Gus, working in his garden, and completing his beautiful scroll-saw pieces.

Amongst his grandchildren, Dwight was famous for his perfectly slow-roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. Waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of Poppa’s French toast was always the highlight of a weekend with Poppa and Grandma.

Dwight was preceded in death by his wife Dixie, son Daniel, parents Joe and Marie. Dwight is survived by sister LaNita (Lyle) Banks; children Denys (Misty Parrish) Murphy and Deena (Blair) Combe; daughter-in-law Connie Murphy; sister-in-law Lillian Ballard; grandchildren Kristin (Jeff) McDaniel, Brenda Murphy, Brad (Taylor) Murphy, Laken (Cole) McConnell, Mickinna (Jesse) Green, Hilarie Murphy, Amanda (Aaron) Wolleson, Terry (Megan) Combe, and Amber (Tyler) Truscott; and great-grandchildren Katelynn, Grace, Rowan, Asher, Kynleigh, Oaklie, Maeva, Kasen, Kenadie, Decker, Sage, and Walker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be on August 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Council Community Church with graveside to follow at Hornet Creek Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on the Council Community Church Facebook page.
