Floyd F. McFadden passed December 19, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Seattle.
Born to Floyd and Ruth (Brown) McFadden in Medera California, December 16, 1936. The family moved back to Council Idaho when Freddie was a baby. He attended Council School. He picked apples at the Mesa Orchard for 10 cents a box.
He joined the Army sometime in the 1950’s.
He married Vonda Ann Smith in 1958, in Grangeville, Idaho. They settled in McCall, and he worked for the Boise Cascade Sawmill in McCall, until 1978, when he transferred to Aberdeen, WA.
Fred worked as a Saw Filer all over mills in Idaho, Washington, California, Oregon and Alaska. He was asked to teach Saw Filing in Russia, he declined.
In 1996, he returned to Council, where he retired and Vonda passed in 1996. He helped out at the Tamarack Sawmill when needed and in the summer he delivered supplies to camp fires.
He loved gardening and berry picking. He met Helen Weaver in 2000. He and Helen were great companions. They enjoyed traveling and spent their winters in Arizona.
In 2019, Fred moved to Auburn, WA. to be close to family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son James McFadden, and many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his companion Helen Weaver of WA. His sister Patty Gross of Council Idaho, his brother Lewis McFadden of McCall/Council Idaho, another brother Roger, Darlene McFadden of Casper Wyoming. His son Kelly McFadden of Ontario Oregon, his daughter Vonda and son in law Gary Walkama. His grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He loved the little kids. He loved to tease the little ones and always had a nickname for them. He is very missed.
We will have a memorial service for him sometime this spring.
