Stephen C. Steketee (Steve)

Stephen C. Steketee (Steve), 76, died unexpectedly in his home in Indian Valley on April 10th. Steve was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the youngest of six children. He graduated from Western Michigan University, worked for the Red Cross in Mexico, and served in Vietnam. After managing stores in Michigan and Indiana for several years, he then devoted the rest of his time to farming in Idaho and New Mexico.

Steve loved working the land and was proud of his extensive gardens. He was a great neighbor, always willing to lend a hand to those in need and quick to share one of his coveted squash. An avid reader and armed with a bright and curious mind, Steve was an excellent conversationalist. He loved telling a good story, especially a long-winded one. He had opinions about most things. The man enjoyed a pun, and his genuine smile will be remembered by many.

Steve is survived by his sisters Mary McDonald and Penny Sidor, as well as his brother, Fred Steketee. He has several nieces and nephews who cared for him deeply. At this time, there will be no service, as Steve was not fond of formality. The family encourages those who knew him to savor the fond memories of Steve and know that he valued each and every one of you. Please raise a glass in his honor and retell one of his many wild stories. Maybe the one about that time…

Donations can be made in Steve’s name to Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
