1891 – Part 3

Painted across the false front of this building is ‘Council Valley Hotel - Meals 25 c.’ This is the first known photo taken in what is now Council. This was might have been the first business structure in what would become the town - built in 1891 by Milt Wilkerson and John Hancock. It stood about where the Ace Saloon is today. It’s possible that John Peters may have already established a store shortly before this, about where the M&W parking lot is today.

This is a road north of McCall about 1902, with Little Payette Lake visible in the distance. (The lake was enlarged in 1926 when a small dam was added.) This is probably a typical example of early roads to mining camps. Notice the rocks.

Looking west down Cottonwood Lane. The white house at the end of the lane was built by George Gould sometime after he settled there in 1890.
